Science festivals, seminars and debates around the UK

Whatever your scientific interest or experience, there are events in the UK throughout the year for you. Here, we’ve gathered some of the most popular events and their organisers.

Through our science seminars we aim to promote excellence in international science and to develop understanding of the role of science in society. Cafe Scientifique is a forum for scientific debate, normally held in an informal environment. These Cafes provide an opportunity for experts and the general public to discuss scientific issues on wide ranging scientific topics such as nanotechnology, evolution or the philosophy of perception. The UK is host to a variety of science festivals throughout the year bringing together high-profile names and leading scientists to explore many aspects of science.

The BA aims to ‘advance the understanding, accessibility and accountability of the sciences and engineering’ and holds a series of events throughout the year on local and national levels.

The Royal Institution has been around for over 200 years, and is home to all kinds of stimulating events which celebrate science. Its famous Christmas lectures are targeted especially at children and young adults and are broadcast live each year. In 2005 the subject was ‘The NUM8ER MY5TERIES’.

Intute is a free online service providing access to the very best web resources for education and research. All material is evaluated and selected by a network of subject specialists to create the Intute database. It includes Psci-Com, which covers public engagement in science and science communication, and has a calendar of scientific events which are open to the public.
